

When a seal is angularly misaligned – or cocked on the shaft – an irreversible process begins. Excessive pressure on one section of the seal, when not installed properly, can cause the spring to become dislodged or the seal to heat up and become brittle through excessive wear, both leading to a premature failure.

If you live in a climate with super cold winters or very hot summers, or use your vehicle for towing or hauling, synthetic oil may be the best type of oil for your vehicle. Older engines could also benefit from synthetic oil, as it can help prevent harmful sludge build-up that some older engines seem to be prone to.
1) Common seal types and their features
Finding oil spots under a parked vehicle can be both worrying and stressful for any vehicle owner. If the seal’s leak is small, oil may start to accumulate on the underside of the engine. But as the leak gets bigger, the oil leak will become visible in the front side of the engine.
When the total eccentricity is excessive, the sealing edge of the seal lip cannot accommodate shaft motions and leakage may occur.
Total eccentricity is the sum of shaft runout and the housing-bore eccentricity.
Total eccentricity, shaft runout and housing-bore eccentricity are generally expressed in TIR (Total Indicator Reading).
