Import and export data
According to customs data, the cumulative import volume of titanium dioxide from January to November 2022 is about 116200 tons, a decrease of 34.06% over the same period last year, and the import volume is about 60000 tons; It is estimated that the annual import volume will be 120000 tons, about 70000 tons less than last year. The domestic market demand is weak, and the import of titanium dioxide in China has declined significantly. The new capacity of domestic chlorinated titanium dioxide increased, and the high-end titanium dioxide imported from abroad decreased accordingly.
According to customs data, from January to November 2022, the total export volume of titanium dioxide was about 1279100 tons, an increase of 8.58% over the same period last year, and the export volume increased by about 101100 tons. The export market maintained a stable and rising trend, and the annual export volume is expected to be 1.38 million tons. The export situation in the first half of the year was better than that in the second half, and the overall export market maintained an increasing trend.
Capacity output
According to public data, the cumulative output of titanium dioxide from January to November 2022 is about 3.5755 million tons, up 3% over the same period of last year, with an increase of about 96400 tons, and the annual output is expected to be 3.9 million tons. According to the titanium dioxide analysts from the Chemical Branch of the Business Cooperative, the market price of titanium dioxide will fall sharply in 2022. Affected by the economic situation, the domestic market will be light, but the export market will remain good. The introduction of various favorable policies for real estate before the year will benefit the titanium dioxide market to some extent. Infrared analysis showed that the characteristics bands for the bare nanoparticles are still exhibited in the vitamins@P25TiO2NPs spectra, such as a wide peak in 450–1028 cm−1 related to the stretching vibration of Ti-O-Ti and other peaks in 1630 cm−1 and 3400 cm−1, which represent the surface OH groups stretching. The IR spectrum of vitaminB2@P25TiO2NPs showed signs of binding between compounds. The OH bending peak (1634 cm−1) corresponding to bare nanoparticles disappeared, and the NH2 bending band characteristic of vitamin B2 appeared (1650 cm−1). The IR spectrum of vitaminC@P25TiO2NPs also showed signs of successful functionalization. Bands at 1075 cm−1; 1120 cm−1; 1141 cm−1 were observed, which are originated by CO-C vibrations present in the vitamin C. The intense band at 1672 cm−1 is attributed to the C = O stretching in the lactone ring while the peak at 1026 cm−1 is ascribed to the stretching vibration Ti-O-C. Wide bands at 3880–3600 cm−1 are related to stretching vibration OH groups, but those disappear in the modified nanoparticles spectrum. These observations confirm the interactions between the P25TiO2NPs and the vitamins [35].
In 2023, California and New York proposed banning several food additives that are banned in Europe but legal in the United States. Titanium dioxide was among the five proposed to be banned, but in September, the additive was removed from the list of additives from the California ban list.

Analyst Insight

Drobne et al. used the terrestrial arthropod Porcellio scaber as a test organism for determining the cytotoxic effect of TiO2 NPs (anatase). The animals were exposed to TiO2 NPs of two different sizes (25 nm and 75 nm) in the concentration range 10–1000 μg TiO2/g dry food for 3 to 14 days. No adverse effects, such as mortality, body weight changes or reduced feeding, were observed. In fact, quite the opposite, an enhanced feeding rate, food absorption efficiency and increase in catalase activity were observed. The intensity of these responses appeared to be time- but not dose-dependent. It should also be noted that the concentrations tested in this study were much higher than the predicted concentration (4.8 μg/g soil) at high emission scenario of nano-sized TiO2. Using the same test organism another group showed that exposure to TiO2 NPs induced destabilization of cell membrane in the epithelium of digestive glands isolated from exposed animals. They also showed that this effect can be observed after just 30 minutes of exposure.
