Light-duty trucks have played an essential role in the transportation industry and personal mobility since their inception. These vehicles, designed primarily for carrying cargo and accommodating passengers, encompass a wide range of models, including pickups, SUVs, and vans. Their versatility, fuel efficiency, and increased comfort have contributed to their growing popularity among consumers and businesses alike. This article explores the evolution of light-duty trucks, their significance, and the latest trends within the market.

  • First and foremost, spark plugs are responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber of an engine. This ignition process creates a small explosion that generates the power needed to move the vehicle. Without a properly functioning spark plug, the engine would not be able to start or run smoothly.
  • Polyacrylate
  • EPDM oil seals are less common. They are used in solvent, hot water and steam applications, EPDM resists low temperatures down to -50 °C and UV radiation well. Some types of EPDM are also suitable for higher temperatures up to +150 °C. EPDM oil seals are usually available upon request.

  • The importance of these two components cannot be overstated, as they play a crucial role in maintaining the health of the engine. Without proper maintenance and care, these components can wear out quickly, leading to costly repairs and reduced performance of the vehicle.
  • There is a British Standard laid down for the control of synthetic rubbers. BS 3574 (1989) helps to determine shelf life – for instance, Nitrile (NBR) and Polyacrylic (ACM) are Group ‘B’ rubbers and have a 7-year life, whilst Silicone (VMQ) and Fluoroelastomers (Viton®) are Group ‘C’ rubbers and have a 10-year shelf life. PTFE and Leather do not come into this category but like the others should be kept in the original packing for as long as possible away from direct light, dust, and humidity. Ozone, which can also be produced by battery-driven forklift trucks has a very bad effect on synthetic rubbers. Finally, protect the sealing lip – DO NOT hang the seals on nails, wire etc.

  • ERIKS type M (type B according to the DIN standard) has a single metal casing and rubber sealing lip. Since the casing is made of metal, it must be fitted in a well-finished, undamaged groove. Large volumes of oil seals with metal casings are often cheaper, which is why they are often used as original equipment in machines. However, if an oil seal has to be replaced, types with a rubber exterior (type R or RST) are easier to fit. Type MST is similar to M and commonly used. The difference is the dust lip in the MST oil seal that prevents dust and dirt reaching the sealing lip, and extends its service life in dusty environments.

  • An oil seal type that is resistant to oils, fuels, and solvents, fluorosilicone also offers temperature stability.  Primarily found in aerospace fuel applications and automotive fuel emission control, this o ring material is fast becoming popular in more and more oil-based applications across a wide spectrum of industries.

  • But it's not just about performance
  • It can be modified for applications with large chemical exposure and hard vacuums.

  • What is Oil Seal

  • One of the key properties of high heat rubber gaskets is their ability to withstand temperatures well above normal operating ranges. These gaskets are made from specially formulated rubber compounds that are resistant to heat, making them ideal for use in applications where temperatures can reach up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. This allows them to maintain their integrity and sealing properties even in the most extreme conditions.
  • Once you have selected the most suitable seal available, considering the environment, temperature, shaft speed, pressure, lubrication availability, as well as the size, of course, the seal should be stored adequately and then fitted properly. Here are a few suggestions that could help:-
