If you have prepared the assembly properly, then you are already largely on your way to a successful installation. The assembly of the oil seal itself is not complex. It is, of course, important that it is done properly in view of the longevity and reliability of the seal.
Free the cover by levering gently round the edge with a screwdriver; take care not to bend the flange.

Oil seals are made out of nitrile synthetic rubber with steel stiffener rings. Other rubbers such as viton, silicon, neoprene or poly acrylic can be used for specific applications. The stiffener rings may be stainless steel or brass where highly corrosive fluids are to be sealed. Springs are generally made of spring steel to IS: 4454:Gr.ll or from stainless steel or bronze for corrosion resistance
Rotary shaft or oil seals are placed between moving and stationary pieces of machinery to ensure that contaminants, moisture, corrosive materials and abrasives do not damage the various components. They can also prevent unwanted mixing of fluids, including water and oil combining within a machine.
The first material that we are going to look at is Nitrile Buna- N 70 or NBR for short.

Next, apply a small amount of grease to the seal lip(s) and the area of the shaft in contact with the seal. When using a double-lip seal, fill the small cavity between the two lips with grease as well. This both protects the lips during initial installation and break-in, and also acts as another barrier keeping contaminants out. When installing rubber-coated seals, apply lubricant to the outside diameter as well. This will help prevent the seal from rebounding or backing out from its mounting place.
